Tennis Park Blijdorp will undergo a bold upgrade. The intention is to diversify the sport program without decreasing the existing offer. Next to already installed gym and physio facilities, the concept of diversification consists of adding 6 padel courts and auto and bike parking facility. In its most ambitious scenario, the project is supposed to also “absorb” a nearby public parking lot and therefore make space for wrapping the Vroesenpark around the courts and realization of a green entrance to Rotterdam, coming from the A13 highway.
Insertion of the new program is realized by stacking 8 tennis courts on top of the parking facilities and padel courts at the southern part of the existing sport complex. Elevation of the southern edge creates a buffer zone that protects the tennis park from the noise overload coming from A13, creating a more intimate sport ambient.
Currently, the entrances to the tennis park are situated alongside the highway and at the access road stretching along the western edge of the park. While keeping both of them, articulation of another entrance facing the park is proposed that would make the tennis facilities a genuine part of the Vroesenpark.
