Situated at Jan Evertsenstraat West—a key housing acceleration site near Sloterplas, along the metro corridor, and at the gateway to the AUP area of Amsterdam—the project transforms an existing tennis park into a dynamic urban development. It includes 550 residential units, a state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor tennis and padel facility, and a designated location for a new primary school. By carefully intensifying land use, the project integrates multiple ambitions into a cohesive vision. It creates a high-quality, green, and dense living environment, offering publicly accessible green spaces while situating new residential opportunities close to major public transportation hubs. In doing so, it not only introduces a marketable residential program but also preserves vital urban sports facilities.
SPORT: The sports cluster, stretching along the metro line, serves a dual purpose: providing high-quality tennis and padel facilities and shielding the residential areas from noise pollution from the adjacent infrastructure corridor. This cluster features a tennis and padel hall with tennis courts stacked above it. The main entrance and central hub of the cluster are located along Jan Evertsenstraat, integrated into the plinth of the residential tower.
GREEN SPACES: The project prioritizes greenery with a linear pedestrian connection along the Burgermeester Cramergracht and a green corridor running through the heart of the residential complex. The primary entrances to all buildings, including ground-floor residential units, face the water and connect directly to the inner green strip. This layout enhances the vibrancy and social safety of the area, making the green spaces both functional and inviting.
RESIDENTIAL ARCHITECTURE & HISTORICAL CONTEXT: The residential design consists of two main components: a prominent tower and a pair of slabs. The tower acts as a landmark, marking the end of Jan Evertsenstraat and signaling the entry to the AUP area and Sloterplas. The slabs are carefully designed to harmonize with the protected urban landscape and the architectural language of the AUP. The western slab is subdivided into three buildings, allowing sunlight to penetrate the site and offering unobstructed views of the lake.
PARKING: Parking facilities are seamlessly integrated into the development, running in a north-south direction between the residential and sports programs. The parking structure comprises three levels: two for cars and one for bicycles. Its southern end connects to the central space of the sports complex, while access is conveniently located on Jan Evertsenstraat.
